HELLO FROM THE STAND-IN PRESIDENT’S DESK!
Good morning fellow Rotarians and friends – you may have noticed that our great leader Morgan was absent this morning and I chaired the meeting for him. I believe I scored a sanctimonious 7 from Geoff and Alan – still this is probably more than I scored during my year as President so hey I’m cool about that and thanks for acting Sergeant Geoff! Sorry to the guys I had coffee with afterwards – too much caffeine = non-stop talk!
I would like to congratulate Graeme Jackson who was inducted into our club last week – great to have you on board Graeme. We had a visit from District 9640 Assistant District Governor John Tunnicliff and our second and last visit (for now as we know he’ll be back!!) from Peter Schutz who gave us a briefing on what events and projects his club runs in Limerick, Ireland.
To see all the children enjoying each other’s company at their own table was great – Anthony T doesn’t have enough with 3 of his own and brought along a friend too! Well done to the parents as all the children were very well behaved. Lulu of course sits with the “big folk” now.
Guest Speaker (Karen)
Peter Schutz told of how his club placed a Shelterbox in the town for donations to Haiti and they raised a staggering € 25,000 and their “Memory Christmas Tree” is a great idea which Rev Colin would like assistance to implement if not for this Christmas for Easter. This project allows people to add a tag to the tree in memory of their loved one and then at Christmas all the tags are blessed in Church – a donation is made to place the tag on the tree – though it is not necessary. What a wonderful idea – could see that working in Stocklands perhaps? We wish Peter a lovely stay and safe trip home. It was also wonderful to hear that the whole of Ireland is one district – Rotary truly is a uniting force. Karen is compiling a list of speakers, if you would like to present “your life as you dare tell it” please contact Karen.
Secretary’s Desk (Ken)
Miami High School have their presentation evening on 14th November – if anyone could attend please liaise with Ken. Thanks to Ken for putting info on the Club’s facebook page and congratulations on his CPR rego plate – still trying to think of a “cute” meaning of that acronym…..
Caningeraba State School were nominated for an award in the special needs department for Australia Day thanks to the extensive efforts of Bren – but unfortunately have not succeeded as apparently there were many schools very worthy of the award – thanks Bren for all the work you did on this.
Youth Desk (Meredith)
RYLA places are open for taking if anyone has an under 29 year old employee they would like to send. Liaise with Meredith please. ADG John Tunncliff mentioned this morning that there are willing applicants within the district if we don’t secure our own from Burleigh.

Russell – wow what a huge effort for Donations in Kind (DIK). Russell received an 11kg package of stamps from Yamba which he managed to sell with others he had to raise a massive $1,000.
